Unites States - Mlotkowski and Whitaker being unable to find time to play off their tie in the Western Chess Association tournament, there is no Western champion this year. Mlotkowski, however, holds the California, or Pacific Coast, championship for 1923.
At Los Angeles an enterprising firm has set out a 16-foot chessboard, under an awning, with pieces of corresponding size. Anyone may play; and we understand that beginners are allowed manual assistance in the castling operation.
