The California State championship, at Los Angeles, September 22nd - 29th, was won by A.J. Fink, with a score of 6 out of 8. H. Borochow and Dr. M. Scholz, both of Los Angeles, divided second and third prizes, with a score of 5 each. The following game (the notes of which are by the winner) was awarded the brilliancy prize:

Black's strongest line is probably 18 ... KxB, which leads to complicated lines of play, apparently in White's favour.
