Adolf J. Fink, born July 1890, died at San Francisco December 15th 1956.

Fink's first problem was published in 1908. Between then and 1922, he published more than 300 problems and won about forty prizes. In his lifetime he had over a thousand problems published and won some hundred prizes in all.

Fink was one of the top over-the-board chessplayers at the Mechanics' Institute until his cerebral haemorrhage about three years ago and was a Life Master of the United States Chess Federation. He first won the Master title in the Chicago Masters' Tournament in 1922; the requirement was, to score 40% against Marshall, Torre, Kashdan etc.; Fink scored 42%.
