Like many chess masters have done in the past, Nicholas Rossolimo found his "Waterloo" at Mechanics' Institute! In an exhibition against rugged competition Nick managed to win 14, while drawing 2 (with Russell Freeman and Fred Wreden), and lost 6 (to William Addison, Henry Gross, Gil Ramirez, Jim Schmitt, S.H. Van Gelder, and Carson). Most interesting was young Fred Wreden's game. Not knowing Rossolimo specialized against the Sicilian Defense he played it. It was the only Sicilian Defense game! |
